A recent survey by YouGov has found that people who have dogs are more likely to get dates. The research asked people if they would be more or less willing to date someone based on which of twelve pets they had and dogs turned out to be the most appealing by far.
As many as four in ten people (40%) said they would be more likely to date someone if they had a pooch, whilst only one in nine (11%) said they’d be put off. Women are more likely to fancy someone with a dog, at 42% compared to 36% of men. Cats, on the other hand, are more divisive, with 29% being more likely to date someone with a kitty compared to 20% who wouldn’t want to.

Plenty of pets have neutral appeal - including small, quiet ones like hamsters, guinea pigs, rabbits, tortoises and goldfish - but some others will actively put people off. A whopping 60% of daters would be less likely to go out with someone with a tarantula and 54% said they wouldn’t want to date someone with a snake. However, 2% of people and 4% of people would actively be interested in dating tarantula owners and snake owners, which just goes to show that there’s a niche for everyone out there!
